Day 5 at sea from South Georgia to Tristan da Cunha

We had a bad night due to the rough seas and we, like many on the ship, slept hardly at all. In fact some people said they felt as though they were going to fall out of bed, because the ship was heeling over so much.

The ship has now slowed down to only 6 knots and we are wondering if we will get to Tristan da Cunha tomorrow morning.

For the first time on the cruise, we had breakfast in our cabin and then we listened to Hans Peter's lecture on Introduced and Invasive Species.

After the lecture, we went up on deck to enjoy the sunshine while taking our usual walk round the ship.

We were hoping to have lunch on the aft deck, but it clouded over and then started to rain - very disappointing. Instead, we went to the dining-room for lunch and sat with Kathy, Larry, David and Chris.

After lunch we went to Uli's lecture on the Deep Sea and its Creatures. I found it very interesting, while Wendy nodded off!

At the end of the lecture, as the sun had now come out again, we went back up on deck. Sadly, for me, we missed the trivia quiz by Peter on Astronomy and Space. Peter kindly read the questions to me and I managed to answer most of them correctly!

The daily briefing by Stefan didn't give us much hope that a landing on Tristan would be possible, though we learned that we were hoping to pick up the Government Minister and his wife, who were going on leave to Cape Town. My thoughts were, if we can pick them up, why can't we land there?

We had dinner with Rob and Gayle and then went outside to look at the stars. It was incredibly clear with the Milky Way spanning the sky. Then it was down to the bar for drinks and to listen to Alfredo. Evangelina took the microphone and sang. She was really very good and we all clapped and cheered her.

We went back to our cabin and set the alarm so that we could get up at dawn to see Tristan da Cunha. Well, that is the plan!

Distance Travelled in last two days: 535NM
