Day 1 at sea from Tristan da Cunha to Cape Town

I am sorry to say that today is the second day of the trip that neither of us took any photos!

Before going to breakfast, we finished selecting our photos for the competition and I put them on a memory stick, so Richard Sidey the photographer could download them easily.

Just a mention of the fact that, unlike on our previous trips on Prince Albert II/Silver Explorer, this time we did NOT have complimentary laundry, so we had to use the communal washing/drying machines. This morning we did our laundry and then went to breakfast.

Breakfast was followed by a presentation by Daniil of the next season of Silver Explorer cruises. It was a big sales pitch!

Lunch was a themed International Buffet and we sat with Susan, Kris, Fran and Steve. They are all good fun, especially the Australians!

After lunch, we went to the Panorama Lounge where Sean and Marina were selling Tristanian stamps, postcards, knitted woollen items and various small souvenir products. Wendy bought a pair of socks, some fridge magnets, postcards, stamps and a tea towel.

We then went on a tour of the cabin suites, led by Kate. It was interesting to see 'how the other half lives', although I must say, I was less than impressed with the size of the most expensive suites on the boat. They didn't seem much bigger than the one we were occupying on the 4th deck.

Back in our cabin, we logged on to our laptop and received two more photos of little Isla-May from Keely. We asked the receptionist, Samantha, if she could print them for us, which she did. We put them in pride of place on our cabin desk!

Later on, there was another trivia quiz, this time compiled and run by Richard Sidey and loosely based on photography. We were on Andrew and Maria's team with Peter and Lesley. We did quite well, scoring 16/20.

Next was Kara's lecture on whales and then we met for dinner with Michaela and Karl from Germany. She is a financier and he an 'avant-garde' artist - quite a contrasting couple!

Dinner was followed by karaoke in the Panorama Lounge. I skipped that, but Wendy went and ended up singing 'I'm into Something Good' with Jean! Several of the crew sang, including Eva and Joy. Wendy stayed to the very end, dancing with Mike the sommelier, Sean and Marina amongst others.

So, the first day of our five-day sail to Cape Town is over; another 1,200 miles to go!
