At sea to South Georgia

After a pretty poor night owing to the movement of the ship, we had a late breakfast with Jean and Philip from Lymington.

The first lecture of the day was by Luke, the fisheries expert. He talked about fishing for squid around the Falklands. There are two types: the Illex and the Patagonian. The lecture was followed by a crew emergency drill and then we had to take our wet gear etc for a bio-check prior to arriving on South Georgia.

Lunch was a very good Thai stir-fry. We then went up on deck to look for whales and enjoy the very fresh air!

Looking back towards the Falklands

The lifebuoy by the jacuzzi on the aft deck.

Let's hope we don't need to use it!!

At 4pm we went to the Panorama Lounge for afternoon tea and the first trivia quiz of the voyage. We sat with Jean, Philip, Dick, Chris and their daughter Jo who had joined the ship in Stanley. It was very enjoyable and Jo helped us with her knowledge of the region..

The quiz was followed by a botany lecture by Hans Peter and finally dinner, where we joined Rob and Gayle Meagher, from Sydney, Australia.

Tonight we put the clocks forward one hour, the first of many time changes that we will go through on the cruise.

 Distance Travelled: 336 NM
