Day 2 at sea from Tristan da Cunha to Cape Town

The clocks have had to be put forward another hour, so we were up late which meant breakfast in the Panorama Lounge. It was an opportunity for us to talk with Stefan about the trip and for us to say how much we had enjoyed it.

Following breakfast, Wendy went to a cookery demonstration by the pastry chef, Geron.

I then joined Wendy for a walk around the deck. The weather was beautifully sunny and, after the walk, we had lunch on the aft deck with Cliff, Susan and Kris.

Once again we all looked out for whales, but not a single one in sight! We carried on walking round the deck and met up with Uli, who wanted a photo of us to send to his girlfriend, Shoshana, our expedition leader on the Panama Canal cruise.

As we were walking round the deck, I looked down and saw our shadows leaning against the rails in the surf from the bows of the ship.

We went to the afternoon trivia quiz hosted by Kara on animals. Our team managed 14 out of 20, which wasn't bad as some questions were about really weird animal facts, such as the fact that a cockroach can live for a week without its head!

Another quick walk, then we listened in our cabin to Luke's lecture on crustaceans.

Next we went to the theatre for the day's re-cap and then the results of the photo competition. None of my photos were mentioned, whereas Wendy had five mentions as runner-up in various categories. It shows how much better she is as a photographer than I am! This was followed by drinks in the bar, where we sat with Sean and Marina and learned it was their 30th wedding anniversary. They accepted our invitation to dine with us and Cliff at the Asian evening. The meal was followed by a Q&A session with Stephanie, the hotel director and Grant, the chef.

We managed to get back to the cabin at a reasonable hour - 11pm - and heard that Isla-May should be coming out of hospital tomorrow!

Distance travelled in past two days:  680NM
